I have stated in previous posts that our local newspapers have been deliberately mishandling the news about all the candidates. Bending the truth, and outright lies. This is deliberate misinformation from the Modesto Bee Editorial Board and the official letter sent in to them in response.
Here’s what I wrote into the paper to correct:
“In Senate District 5, there are three other candidates – but none has filed recent campaign finance documents with the secretary of state. One let his Facebook page lapse and another hasn’t updated his website since 2015. Only former Lodi city councilman Alan Nakanishi appears to be raising money, and he’s raised only a fraction of Galgiani’s total.”
These are the errors:
1. There are not “three other candidates” running against incumbent State Senator Cathleen Galgiani. There are a total of two Republicans who are challenging Galgiani and who are official candidates and whose names are on the ballot — Samuel Anderson and Alan Nakanishi.
2. When you write “One let his Facebook page lapse and another hasn’t updated his website since 2015,” you are apparently referring to two candidates who never turned in their final candidacy papers, and whose names are not on the ballot — Derrick Hesselein and Steve Davis. If you wish to inform readers which of the three official candidates have a current campaign website, only I do (http://samforsenate.com).
3. You write that, among the Republican challengers to Galgiani, “Only former Lodi city councilman Alan Nakanishi appears to be raising money.” The first error is that Nakanishi is currently on the Lodi City Council. The second error is that I also have been raising money and receiving donations at http://samforsenate.com/donate/, and reporting, just as Alan Nakanishi.
For the sake of accuracy and the public’s interest in this State Senate race, I would appreciate you promptly correcting these errors to inform the readers of the facts. Thank you.
